The General Store Cafe News

When the weather suits you not,
Try smiling
When your coffee isn’t hot,
Try smiling
When your neighbors don’t do right,
Or your relatives all fight,
Sure ‘tis hard, but then you might ...
... Try smiling

Doesn’t change the things, of course
- Just smiling.
But it cannot make them worse
- Just smiling.
And it seems to help your case,
Brightens up a gloomy place,
Then, it sort o’ rests your face ...
... Just Smiling.

General Store Cafe Now Offers Organic "Republic of Tea"

Do you know what a tea leaf looks like? Although tea is the most imbibed beverage in the world, most have never experienced the flavor of a true cup of full-leaf tea, brewed from simple, natural, whole leaves. The Republic of Tea allows one to experience this rich taste.

The Republic of Tea offers full-leaf tea because it's simply better tasting and much more diverse in its range of subtle flavors than the cut leaves or tea dust you will find in most tea bags. The finest teas are made from hand-picked young shoots, the two leaves and bud that sprout from the very tip of the evergreen Camellia bush, which produce the most flavorful cup. The General Store Cafe is proud to bring you this quality tea.

Traveling to the misty green tea gardens in Asia and India, The Republic of Tea seeks out only the best unblended, estate-grown leaves. These teas are the product of expert cultivation and perfect timing with varied and unique characteristics similar to those of truly interesting wines.

With a passion for healthy tea, the Republic of Tea also works directly with tea growers to produce organic teas and herb blends, that are fresh hand-harvested teas, herbs, flowers and spices, grown without the use of synthetic chemicals or pesticides, using only sustainable interdependent farming methods. These exquisite prized teas are all Certified Organic by Quality Assurance International.

Try this delicious tea at the General Store Cafe. We offer iced black tea or iced ginger peach tea, as well as many other varieties available for sale in takeout tins, cups, or bodum teapot servings. Gift sets are also available featuring tea cannisters with a mug.

Featured Store Artist: Louise Omoto Kessel

This month the Store features prints by Louise Omoto Kessel.

Lousie is a storyteller, printmaker and mom living with her family on Clapping Hands Farm, a little west of Pittsboro.

Perhaps, you saw Louise at the General Store Café a month ago when she told her stories during "A Fool’s Night Out" or you may have had a chance to see her antics during the Haw River Festival. Louise founded the Annual Haw River Festival back in 1990 and worked with the festival for it's first five years.

The Haw River Festival is a traveling learning celebration that takes to the river each spring. Over the course of one month 300 volunteers teach and entertain over 3000 fourth graders and visit several communities throughout the 100 mile length of the river.

Her print images will be on sale on paper and on T-shirts during the Haw River Festival finale on May 10.

Don't Miss the Annual Haw River Festival Finale this Saturday!

The Finale to the Haw River Festival is this Saturday, May 10, which wraps up the three week long traveling celebration of the river - a field trip for schoolchildren to learn first-hand about the water quality, ecosystem and history of the Haw River with a crew of dedicated volunteers. Admission to the Haw River Festival Finale is free. Donations to the Haw River Assembly are gratefully accepted to help put on the Haw River Festival programs for schoolchildren each year.

The Haw River festival Finale features musician, artists, giant puppets, storytellers and environmentalists down at the historic Bynum Bridge in Bynum, NC this Saturday, May 10th from 1:00- 6:00pm! Don't miss your chance to bid on an original Clyde Jones art piece, or to win that 14 foot explorer Canoe being raffled off for $1.00! For more information, contact 919-542-5790.
