The General Store Cafe News
June 30, 2003
Our Country

To all who hope for Freedom’s gleam
Across the warring years,
Who offer life to build a dream
In laughter or in tears,

To all who toil, unmarked, unknown,
By city, field, or sea,
I give my heart, I reach my hand,
A common hope, a common land
Is made of you and me.

To men oppressed in all the lands
One flashing hope has gone,
One vision wide as earth appears,
We seek, across the warring years,
The gray world’s golden dawn.

GSC Meeting: A Community Investment - Monday July 7th, 8:15 pm

On Monday July 7th, at 8:15 pm the five active owners of the cafe will be at the store, and will conduct a short meet and greet session, followed by a presentation to interested and qualified investors. Feel free to stop by if you are interested in what the current owners are planning to do at the store in general, or, if you are a qualified investor, you can come by and look at our upcoming investment prospectus.

In the continued effort to keep the General Store Cafe going and a vital part of the community, we are looking for qualified investors that share the vision of what the store represents today, and how it will grow in the future.

Over the past several months the store has grown very fast and has more than doubled its sales volume, but we are now at a stage where some additional investments are necessary to ensure the long term viability and stability of our beloved store.

If you have any questions regarding this session - please feel free to contact us at info@thegeneralstorecafe.com or contact Vance at (919) 542-2432. Please RSVP to info@thegeneralstorecafe.com if you plan to attend this session with the owners.

Featured Artist: Scott Curtis

Come and enjoy the artwork of Scott Curtis, currently for sale and on display at the General Store Cafe. Scott Curtis has worked as a graphic artist and creative director in the software and advertising industries for the past twelve years. He also maintains a design studio called Machina Design located in Deep Chatham, North Carolina.

Machina Design produces paintings, prints, furniture, and sculpture. The studio's work can be seen online at www.machinadesign.com.

"I've always been fascinated by what time and "damage" does to images and objects, and so I like to experiment with materials that can accelerate or simulate age and deterioration. I'm building a portfolio of new objects that explore how applications and processes like caustic agents, acids, and sandblasting interact with more traditional materials like gouache, acrylic, inks, dye transfers, and encaustic. Regardless of the subject or the medium, I want my work to strike a chord in the viewer with something in memory, probably something that's been lost. I don't want to represent just a face or a figure, and although I want to avoid simple nostalgia and sentimentality, I do try to evoke memories that feel like a reaching back - for something infused with desire, maybe of what life was and may be again."

A good-natured goofball, he loves hanging out with his foster mom and playing with his toys and his foster mates. Yuri is housebroken and gets along well with other dogs. Not sure about cats - he may be a little too interested in them. Heartworm negative, neutered and vaccinated, Yuri would love a home with a fenced yard and another playmate or two or a human who is home a good bit of the time. With his plush coat and beautiful plumey tail, Yuri is not for those bothered by fur bunnies! For adoption, contact C.A.R.E. at www.chathamanimalrescue.org or 542-5757.
